obviously the Iraqi's are delighted Saddam is gone Umm, not all of them. Radio news said there was a pro-Saddam rally in Baghdad last night. US soldiers and tanks stood by watching to keep order. Of course: Can you IMAGINE an anti-gov't, anti-Saddam rally in Baghdad when Saddam was in power where all the army did was watch? Aren't we brutes? :-) the deal is France didn't object as much to following UN sanctions as their fear of losing the money they made by being financially in bed with Iraq And then, after the US invasion, oppose the lifting of sanctions because they would NOT make a franc from that. though the French did help us in our American revolution, they did it more to vex and weaken Britain [their enemy] than to promote revolution Absolutely- -a point many of the liberals are either ignorant of or intentionally ignore in claiming that the French aided liberty over her. The fact is that Britain and France were at war at the time. If they make such a claim, then they must accept a claim by the US that our only motivation in aiding the Afghanis during the Soviet occupation was to promote their freedom. It did come back to bite the French absolute monarchy in the butt, though. The success of the American revolution showed it could be done. The French people took note.
