Why, oh why, do all our Republicrat 'leaders' miss the boat on this? Why do they focus on the trivia and 'inside politics' issues, while missing the much bigger boat of lower, fairer taxes? The answer to this is quite simple. Politics is about power. Power lust is what drives the vast majority of politicians to covet office. All the pontificating about "working for the good of the public" is so much pablum for the masses. The abominable tax code that we're burdened with is simply a power tool that the pols manipulate to reward their friends and punish their enemies. They'll never give up that power unless enough taxpayers demand it. You're right about current compliance costs. A simple flat tax would lift a huge burden off the back of the economy and be a strong stimulus for productive growth...
