a portion of the too much that we send in The too much we sent in was sent to Washington as a payroll tax to finance future obligations of the Social Security program. We spent some of the money and sent some of it back via a tax return. The result: When the boomers retire, the money won't be there. Taxes will have to be raised to pay the benefits. That is the hard reality.
