I'm almost out the door on my way to a Greek Fest so can't spend much time on this, but did turn up a paper on HLA subtypes and resistance to interferon treatment for hepatitis C. HLA 46B did convey resistance to interferon.

As for whether Europeans have HLA 46B, I don't know. There are some publications I can google references for but I can't read the articles because I don't have subscriptions.
