I discovered that HK-listed Beida Jade Bird (8095.HK), a PRC based IC design house (ASICs & ASSPs) and network systems company owns 5% of SMIC, worth HK$600-1200 yet their marketcap is only HK$ 330m. SMIC is reported to get ready for an IPO by mid 2004 in the US, on the NYSE most proabably.. Looks like the "script" of TSM and UMC to me. Beida Jade looks like a way to buy a 5% stake in SMIC pre-IPO..
