The opposite in fact.

His entire theory is based on the fact that the aggregate emotions of the public tend to cause waves where levels of fear, greed, hope and despair are echoed by the stock indexes.

Those waves cause people to react that the level of emotion and cause news.

Fear, which is what you are measuring, is only one of at least four basic emotions, so your Fear Factor will usually be about 25% correct.
