German industry earns billions of euros every year from America's presence in Germany.

Yes, about $5 billions/year, that's about 0.25% of German GDP. Look, we try to be a hospitable nation but if you feel you need that fraction of the US military budget so urgently elsewhere then move the troops to wherever you wish.

P.S. And you better get in sync with your favored president - he's now listing Germany among the nations assisting in the reconstruction of Iraq.

Many U.N. members -- from the Philippines to Poland and now Germany -- have expressed their commitment to helping build a democratic and stable Iraq.

<if Germany wants to build a nuclear shield, go for it>

If Germany and Japan re-militarize, acquiring nuclear weapons and a Global Reach military, changing their Constitutions to allow foreign military adventures, do you really think America can guide or control or contain this, for good purposes? Like the Afghan Mujahedeen who the CIA recruited to fight the Soviets, like the Iraqi Baathists who we supported from the 1950s through the 1980s, like so many of our Frankenstein proxies, they will drift out of our control, with horrible results. You are forgetting, in your hubris, the Law of Unintended Consequences.

How many million Germans and Japanese and others died in the 20th Century, to finally change German and Japanese culture, from Prussian to pacifist? Do you really want them to forget all those painful learning experiences, all that awful history, and get on the road to repeating it? Opinions like yours, which are spreading rapidly throughout the world, convince me the planet is being taken over by nihilists, blind Samsons pulling hard on the columns holding up the Temple of the Enlightenment. Haven't we had enough of the Kaiser's and Tojo's and Bush's BloodAndIron?
