Target says same-store sales on track for Sept
Monday September 29, 6:48 pm ET

NEW YORK, Sept 29 (Reuters) - Target Corp. (NYSE:TGT - News) on Monday said same-store sales in the latest week were "slightly below" the retailer's plans, but its sales forecast for the month was unchanged.

Same-store sales, or sales at stores open at least a year, for the week ended Sept. 27 were slightly below expectations for both Target discount stores and the company as a whole, which includes the weaker Mervyn's and Marshall Field's divisions.

Target said its sales for the month to date are on track to meet its September same-store sales forecast of a 5 percent to 6 percent increase at its namesake stores, with results for the total corporation about 1.5 percentage points below that mark.

The top-selling product categories for the month to date include stationery/holiday, entertainment, toys and domestics, while the poorest categories include men's apparel, sporting goods, garden, home improvement and auto.
