Have you seen the tool they use to superimpose second-to-second approval/disapproval data on top of the debates, speeches, etc? They usually break it down to Demos/Reps, but can also do it by gender, race, etc. I think it is an incredibly valuable tool for politicians to see which messages are resonating and which are not. Maybe I'm a data-geek, but I could watch that for hours... :)

I think that if either or both parties would use this type of tool, they'd see that the majority of people will respond well to non-partisan, common sense themes. It could be used to find a 'middle ground' message that could not only get their candidate elected, but actually find someone who would be representative of a majority of the people. What a concept...
