Why should Iraqis, in their own country, adjust their own behavior for the benefit of the foreign occupying army? It's their country, remember? Who should do the adjusting?

Talk about a 180 degree flip-flop. We should still be *controlling* Germany and Japan with our military, but Iraq shouldn't adjust their behavior for our benefit?

Practically, it is not their country right now. They are occupied by the US as you say. From a utilitarian perspective, if they want to live, they "should" find ways to preserve their lives. I realize you are talking of the moral realm- and are referring to their lost sovereignty, but still, to survive you must adjust.

Did you ever read that great short story about the Vietnam War called "The Man at the Well", by Tim O'Brien? (It's from a really good book called "If I Die in a combat zone, Box Me Up and Ship me home." he also wrote "Things They Carried.")
