<<What should Carter have done? Should he have sent 250,000 troops to Afghanistan to push back the Soviets? Remember that the Soviet Union had a large nuclear arsenal. Seems that responding to their aggression cautiously, as opposed to setting of World War III, made sense. >>

um, Allen, maybe Carter could have thought of providing the Stinger shoulder-fired anti-helicopeter rockets to the Majhahadeen, like the Reagan Admin decided to do. This changed the course of the war. Prior to this, the Ruskies were winning handily.

Did you know the Carter people had a nuclear weapon contingency plan in place in the event the Russains pushed South through Afghan for a warm-water port?

Allen,re:"anything doesn't involve explosives doesn't
count". That's good one. You can't make money if you
don't blow something up and then build it back. I wouldn't
trust the RONgang for the accounting of 'Bombs/weapons'
used. But under PATRIOT ACT, who want to touch the
subject, especially around white hose.
