My reaction as well, but my wife made me try it - added a bit of sport to the event, they give up, eventually. Best to take small bites.

The best Octopi I ever had was one I took in Laguna Beach California with my Hawaiian dive partner. He steamed it and then added some sesame oil and some special seaweed his folks sent him. He called it Tako Poke, tako is Japanese for Octopi, not sure what the poke part means (probably seaweed) but man was it good - one of those things that got better if you let it sit in the fridge a day or two.
