Why would we need an independent probe? Can't Ashcroft investigate it? After all, he'd be impartial and invoke his usual sense of fairplay....hehehe... Sorry, couldn't get through all that with a straight face. Of course, the Republicans, who spent $70m chasing a Whitewater mirage which turned into a Filegate mirage and a Travelgate mirage etc will oppose this as 'unnecessary'. Cause they know that once an investigation starts, there are LOTS of rocks that will be uncovered - intelligence reports exaggerated, collusion with energy bandits, lack of planning, internal strife between Defense and State, etc etc. And if Rove is involved, you can scratch the reelection.
