Novak is between a rock and a hard place. He's either got to deny somehow, or the administration will have someone walk the plank and further damage their own credibility. Imagine the revenge the WH will take on Novak, even tho' he was just being a good lackey, as always.

Which do you think he'll choose?

If you read your story you see he hasn't retracted anything.

Instead he now says he "interviewed" two high administration officials, who both told him exactly what was reported. Its funny that he releases a non-denial which can later also be denied, since its in Drudge.

This is a pathetic event, which doesn't turn down the heat even slightly.

The next shoe to drop will be the names of one or two of the other 5 journalists who were informed. There are several careers and many lives at stake, and there are too many involved and too much leaking to cover it all up. Even the Newsweek guy Howard Fineman tonight on Hardball said a few minutes ago he also had sources inside the WH confirm the original Novak story, that there were people inside the WH making these calls.

The story won't go away, my friend.
