"Pretty much" is not the same as having a socialist system.

Its not a fine bright line where here you are not socialist, but move another inch and you are. Its more like you a little bit socialist, then a little bit more, then moderately socialist, then very socialist ect.

Creeping socialism? I don't think so. Socialism is a state of mind....not a vine. We're not anywhere close.

It will take more evolution. <g>

If the government is paying for food, medicine, and housing (esp. in addition to all the other things it pays for now) then you move to "very socialist", even if you are not in a totally socialist system.

I was taught in church that was being Christian, not socialistic.

I think the fear is exaggerated because our system is so capitalistic and conservative that the likelihood of developing a socialistic facsimile is next to nothing.

Not really. Government spending is over 40% of GDP and both the long term and short term trends are up. It takes over 5 months of work for the average person to pay their tax bill, and that doesn't include the costs of regulatory compliance. Factor those in and we are working for the government something like 9 months out of each year.

I'm not touching this one with a ten foot pole.

More paranoia........how can you have involuntary socialism in a democracy?

50.001% of the people vote for it. The other 49.999% face involuntary socialism.

Now you know why I hate Bush.
