And it's time that we addressed this gender inequality head on. Our courts are providing free room and board, with TV and health club privileges, to far too many men and far too few women. It's past time for the government to inaugurate an Affirmative Action for Equal Imprisonment Program. Starting immediately, for each arrest of a male, police must arrest two females until they have reached equality (plus or minus 10%, which will be considered functional equality) of arrests. And prosecutors, similarly, must try and convict two women for every man convicted until we reach gender parity in our jails and prisons. Now, some people will say that the Equal Imprisonment Goals are impossible to reach, because men as a matter of fact commit more crimes than women. But this is easily addressed. The problem is that our laws are functionally gender unequal. We make crimes of murder, robbery, assault, and other acts which men tend to undertake more than women. What we need is to criminalize more traditionally feminime behavior. For example: talking for more than five minutes to one person on the telephone could be a class C felony. Wearing makeup or perfume could be a class B felony (and would have the benefit of getting Enimen and his ilk into jail, too.) Crying at weddings would be a class A felony. And so on. I'm sure that our creative government minds can come up with gender balanced laws that assure that an equal number of men and women wind up in the criminal justice system. It's just a matter of equality. Once we enlist NOW in the campaign, it will take off fast!
