There appear to be great ways for the truely rich (class does not include those that work jobs making 100K a year) to avoid estate taxes and for obvious reasons--income taxes. If you make all your money through capital gains and use tax shelters, the rich don't pay taxes with exception of some property taxes. Yet listen to all the tax proposals of the Dems out there. You would think that if they really were trely interested in taxing the wealthiest Americans they would propose increasing the capital gains tax rate or imposing a national property tax...but they don't...how clever, because that would actually increase their own taxes. Instead they focus on income taxes (people working jobs, even stock traders for their own accounts don't work jobs) and focus on estate taxes to nail the non-rich that can't afford the estate tax shelters they would really need. If T. Kennedy isn't a hypocrite, let me see his National property tax proposals, or capital gains tax proposals. He doesn't propose these things that would really tax the rich because that would actually make him pay too!

We're all in favor of taxing estates that are larger than our own. It makes good business sense and allows smaller farmers to compete with their larger, more wealthy neighbors.

We can go to the moon but we haven't found a way of taxing the hell out of George Soros.;)
