I think you are being completely unfair. Columbia had only 3600 people kidnapped in 2002, which is fewer than in Yemen. It has been at least 3 years since more than 100 people at at time have been killed by bandits in any one town, and right now no person in elected government office is under a specific public death threat by narco trafficers or farc poly-bandits, although they do have to travel in armoured limousines and live under armed guard. The Political risk is probably no worse than Iran, Kazakhstan, India, or Rhodesia. Besides, mountains of glittering metal will offset any fears about banditos.
