Clinton raised spending on troops as was needed and prepared our military well. That shows now. He and Bush Sr. saved a lot of money by closing down old useless Cold War military bases. You would call that cutting our defense but it was a bi-partisan effort to cut unnecessary spending. Not all military spending it good, smart or useful. In fact billions are often wasted on systems which dont work. SDI is one of them right now.

The Democrats are now the ones fighting for veterans benefits and for our low-paid troops to get the help they need for their families. Remember, the average soldier is on the verge of the poverty line. Bush's tax cuts do nothing for them, and other costs are going up.

Bush is for the rich and big defense contractors. That's not the same as being for the troops. We need a real military leader in next, Silver Star winners Clark or Kerry would be fantastic for the military. No more chickenhaewks using the military as pawns and photo op props who piss off and alienate our allies. And no more reckless wars which fail afterward due to piss-poor planning at the top.
