A prevailing explanation for the popularity of conspiracy theories is that they give psychological comfort to believers.

Precisely.

The popularity of research on what happened on 9/11 would occur whether Germany joined the Iraq war or not. The attempt to dismiss individuals such as the federal research minister will continue, both by this article's comforting theories of mass illusion, and by provacateurs planted to come up with "flying saucer" type theories to discredit others by implication.

Neither approach works with people who take the time to look at evidence in detail from a variety of sources.

It is certainly clear that something funny happened, completely apart from the hijackings. Reactions within the highest levels of the US gov't were not as they were supposed to be. It is also clear that highest gov't officials are doing everything they possibly can to prevent investigation into those events.

That alone is sufficient for anyone with common sense to want an independent, complete and immediate investigation. Many others are just weak-minded souls hoping against all historical evidence that our gov't officials are bound to be honest, could never be involved in anything so shady, and hope for the best.

These people and the other 10 million demonstrating around the world also hope for the best, but have the cojones to face the issues and ask the hard questions.

Cost of Marshall Plan as of today is around $2.6 trillion. With risk adjustment that would be $18.9 trillion.

If $18.9 trillion would not be repaid by New Years our nuclear subs should wipe out germany once and for all
