Thanks for responding. Would like to address a couple of points, if I may:

actually with the 3 million net lost jobs since 2000 for the US economy, I believe this jobs climate is the worst since Hoover.

I've seen dems scream that on the tube for weeks, but measured by what? When you work with a growing population and economy, it's a no-brainer that more contemporary raw numbers are larger. What was the total population when Hoover was President? 122 million? factmonster.com Of course the raw numbers are smaller going back in time.

As far as the unemployment rate, isn't that the applications for UI they are counting? Everyone I know exhausted that years ago.

I think that's what they count. But as for people "exhausting" that, the same would be true, and was reported to be true, in past recessions, as well.
