Ebay plainly stated they did not send the original note, and they very plainly gave advice on what to do had you been dull enough to send the data requested by the spoofer. I can't think of anything else they could have done and I don't see how one can construe it as an eBay customer service problem.

What more could they do? They don't control the flow of scam mail over the internet. And in fact nobody does which is what the scammers are exploiting. It's simply not eBay's fault, or even within their power to control.
