Everybody should continue to have their clubs without hindrance. DON'T invite me to the Bar Mitsva, then!

The entire basis of self interest rests on the right to free association. Families tend to exclude others except in exceptional times. So be it. Why not?

Special interest groups per se do no harm to society. Conspiracy and hate groups, however, DO do harm. Stirring up hate is rightfully a cause for social concern. Non prejudicial exclusions are not. Why SHOULD an idiot be allowed to join Mensa?? Why SHOULD a moron be admitted to the bar? Why SHOULD an imbecile be barred from the Presidency? Gee...that was a joke. Everybody relax...

Did anyone ever reply to this questionnaire?

Your original post requested responses from those who subscribed to options two or three. I assumed from the lack of responses that no one did. I sure don't, although I'm not crazy about option one, either.

I would have no objection if it were an Italian- American club. Caucasian is not an apt category, however, and it is difficult to see how it could function except as a celebration of racialism. The reason that a Black Student Union is tolerable is that there is presumed to be a set of sociological and historical characteristics that make blacks into one ethnic group in this country, rather than a fairly empty racial designation. Similarly, Asian are very diverse, but seen to operate under similar pressures and problems, and therefore to be able to offer mutual aid. I suppose, however, that if one were define it as a club for those of European origin, I would have no objection, since that would establish some sort of historical perspective, rather than naked racial categorization.........
