500.00 dollar hammers and toilets seat built to very precise safety specification are a bargain at twice the price. You again make the case the government contracts are wise and cost effective. Precision testing including stress to failure tests are not free. A piece of foam failed and destroyed the space shuttle. Much simpler than a hammer or a toilet seat. But in a critical situation a failure could cost a life. But stupid people who beat their heads with a hammer so they can fit them up their butt don't require special hammers, they use their mouth, they don't need any toilet seat.
