Good bit from Hugh Hewitt

The Wilson Affair in D.C. continues to garner headlines even though it is already been answered by the Bush Administration. Press Secretary Scott McClellan said yesterday that "if anyone in this administration was involved with it, they would no longer be in this administration."

There will be swift retribution if the investigation turns up the identity of anyone who blew the cover of a covert CIA employee, which is absolutely the right response.

The White House is fully cooperating as well, with Counsel to the President Alberto R. Gonzales instructing staff this morning to preserve all related materials that might matter in the Department of Justice Investigation. If the leaker is in the White House and can be found, he or she will be hoisted high on the mast as an example to others.

This President knows that the lies a President and his staff tell fuel scandal, and will not be drawn into the lure of a cover-up.

The fun part is the opportunity that this episode provides to contrast this White House with Clinton's, where every day brought a new set of lies and new maneuvers to keep guilty parties far away from justice and Justice. Had Bush decided to play the game the Clinton way, there'd already have been an assertion of a half-dozen privileges that had been manufactured by a Bruce Lindsey type, and suspected leakers would have set up fall guys down the line. Clinton himself would have appeared to express grave concern over the damage done to national security and Janet Reno would have held a press conference to assure the public that she would handle the investigation wit speed and diligence. And that would be the last we'd ever hear of it.

The public recalls all of this and the story will blow up in the Democrats' hands as a result. Chuck Schumer sternly calling for an independent counsel --now that's rich. Keep it up Chuck. You have such enormous credibility with the country.
