stock issuance as the accerating factor

Companies like Microsoft did not go public as an accelerating factor.

They went public to allow a public market for the equity granted to the employees. (And a public market provides a daily valuation on the company for the upper levels to crow about...)

Many of the companies that create a business model that dominates a sector (and is truly a shift in the way business is done) would remain private, if not for the need for liquidation by the lower level employees.
