Not to be an apologist for Saddam, but after the 1991 war when we had smashed his army to smithereigns, the first Bush told different Iraqi factions to revolt. At the same time we had a no fly zone. The only weapons he had was US supplied gas. So he used that on the Kurds.
Yes he is a monster but there is a reason for what he did and we in the US are not so innocent.
How can you tell people to revolt while promising aid and then let them rot.

Unfortunately, I can't. It's just a number that has been stuck in the back of my mind for a while - that in recent years Saddam's regime has been killing about 2k people/year with a substantially larger number of mutilations. (I would guess 4 to 5 times the number of executions).
...I am rather surprised that Amnesty International doesn't compile estimates.
