It may surprise you to know he was LEBONESE Not at all. There are a lot of nationalities here. Actually, I do know a few Lebanese people. Through him I learned A LOT about the Arab divisions etc. I know its far too complicated for any SANE PERSON to understand, especially me. haha. Yes. I have had to learn all that as well. It was bad enough living in the ME as a blond "infidel" girl growing up into a young woman, without offending respective sensibilities through ignorance of the underlying divisions. So you learn fast :-)I have travelled throughout S.E. Asia and never had any problems with any one. Never been to Europe though. Maybe I should point out here that you probably wouldn't in Europe, either, because the resentment I see here is towards the US (the state, personified in George W. Bush), and not individual Americans. I know Americans who live here, and aside from the occasional dinnertime questions on "What on earth does your administration think it's doing?" from friends, they are not bothered at all. Not so sure about the ME these days, though. I would have said the same for the ME of a couple of years ago, but I have not returned in the past few years, except for a few visits, so I wouldn't be able to say with equal confidence that at present the resentment is only to the state and you would be welcomed with open arms as an American. That would be the case some years ago. You are the FIRST person to ever tell me Chileans didnt like us It could be that my sample population is not representative of the whole of Chile, for I have mostly met the Chileans who had to flee their country because of Pinochet's coup d'etat and subsequent military dictatorship. Needless to say, they are a little pissed at the US for conjuring it all. She made me feel as though the Kurds really like us. I am sure they do. Americans protected the Kurds with the no flying zone, saved them from Saddam, and now will possibly give them sovereinty. But, I hope they will come around as it just isnt going to happen that they get their own country. Turkey wouldnt stand for it, nor would the other Iraqi's. My feeling is that eventually they will get their country if they really want to get it. That's how these stories always end. People want country, people eventually get country. Unfortunately, a lot of blood gets shed from point A to point B.
