What for? It's a little naive to think that the U.N. is or should be capable of solving all of the world's problems.

Not all...Rwanda was however a total failure of the UN and its members. As the Iraqi situation is demonstrating, no nation can act alone. We need leaders who will support and strengthen the UN, not bash it and seek to diminish it.

Why not discount the humanitarian motives of Clinton when he went into Kosovo?

Because he didn't lie about his motives. It was humanitarian from the start. There was no hidden agenda, no other motive than to prevent the spread of the conflict and avoid another human disaster like the one in Bosnia and Croatia before it.
