- how do you keep bees??

It's easy. All it takes is a little smoke, but since your going the Hippie route, that shouldn't be a problem.

Won't your hubby mind?

How do you keep bees? Where to begin? Buy or make the hive boxes; there are frames inside with hex-stamped wax sheets that they use as the foundation for the comb. Buy bees. Put on a suit and veil, fire up a smoker, dump them in the hive. Feed them sugar water until they get established.
Give them streptomycin and mitacide (necesaary; there is no such thing as organic honey, not only because of this, but because you don't know where the nectar comes from, given the 2-3 mile range of the bee).

Take out the frames, cut the caps off the frames, put them in an extractor, crank it, put the honey in a jar.
Nothing to it.

Bears? I have friends who put their hives on a 10 ft. platform to keep the bears away. One day they forgot and left the ladder up. Bye, bye , bees.
