I thought that was what you meant. My mother told me that soon "disinterested" is going to mean the same thing as "uninterested" because people are not able to use the two words correctly. That will be a sad day. Disinterested is a very good word and is necessary, I think. I guess there is always "impartial", but to me that means "fair" rather than "not having a stake in the outcome"- and these two things are not synonymous.

I see disinterested as a subset of "fair"- or at least it could be. I suppose you could be disinterested and unfair, if you just didn't care to BE fair. I'm not sure you could be impartial AND unfair though....
