His statement was neither stupid nor ignorant. It was a valid commentary on the way sportswriters evaluate players. It is in fact no different from the hundreds of columns about Jayson Blair being overrated because editors wanted to promote a black reporter.

Nevertheless, it was stupid for him to not realize that that by making the statement, he would be lumped in with Jimmy The Greek and other racists.
