From the Weatherbug:

The active hurricane season of 2003 continues as another storm has formed in the Gulf of Mexico. An area of suspect weather has become Tropical Storm Larry.

Larry formed over the warm waters of the Gulf of Mexico last night as it finally was able to overcome the non-tropical effects of a cold front that was stretched across the region.

Larry is the 12th named tropical system of the season. The 2003 season is living up to the forecast that predicted a very active season as far back as the spring of 2003.

At 5am EDT, Larry was located at 21.0N and 93.5W. Maximum sustained winds were around 50mph. The storm has slowly been organizing and some strengthening over the next few days is likely.

Forecasters at the hurricane center are looking at a variety of scenarios for future movement. The latest forecast calls for very little movement over the next 4 to 5 days.
