I think Rush should have known better to phrase it the way he did. I also think a bigger deal has been made out of the whole thing than should have been. Finally I think the reason ESPN hired him was because they knew he was very outspoken. In other words, it's a hook to get viewer's to tune in to see what he'll say next.

Nothing reveals a man's character like adversity. I'll be watching him with interest the next few weeks.

I thought the way he handled his deafness showed no small amount of character. He could have quit and taken care of himself but he adapted and carried out his obligations through it all. I tried to imagine profound deafness. I couldn't quit get there but I got close enough to glimpse how frightening it must be.
