I hadn't heard of Baker's comment. But that comment is absurd. There is no race that can take the heat better than another. It's more a function of being physically fit, not your race. I find Bakers comment offensive as well. Fortunately for Baker, he's not the lightening rod that Rush is. Especially since Rush has been an outspoken critic of affirmative action. It makes what he says even more sensitive.

Black people have had a tough row to hoe. Anyone that does not acknowledge that is an idiot. Being a slave was the best a Black person could hope for little more than 100 years ago. It should come as no surprise to anyone that blacks have been discriminated against more so than any race in this country. Affirmative action has been one of the best things this country could do to help balance this gross inequity. There will come a time when Affirmative action is not needed. I don't think we are there yet.

I don't think that the NFL needs to focus much attention on race for coaches or quarterbacks. There should be no bias one way or the other by the time players reach this level of professional sports. In due time there will be many black coaches and quarterbacks, not because of their race but because of their skill.

In the case of the Lions, I believe that the team must have interviewed more than one coach for the position, and left out the black guy who was interested. That would be discrimination, and maybe it did warrant a fine. If the team did not conduct interviews and already knew who they wanted then maybe the fine was ill advised.
