Ted, Its not that even few share the opinion; there doesn't seem to have been much discussion on the issue at all.
Of course there isn't. Race is such a taboo subject and can only be brought up under strict yet unwritten "rules of engagement."

Now that Rush said what he did, McNabb is automatically seen as the "victim," the "good guy," the football player who does well but never gets the respect he deserves. Rush is automatically labeled the "racist," the man who spews hatred and intolerance, someone who doesn't know what he's talking about. People have already made up their minds and chosen sides. Never mind that others have indeed called McNabb overrated before Rush:

cbs.sportsline.com (Sept. 18)

Ten, I didn't have time to read all your links but I did read the first one. Here is a couple of paragraphs from that article:

<font color=blue>And that's why he earns the Most Overrated Player Award.

On most player ranking lists heading into the season, McNabb was ranked in the top 15-20 players. One had him as the third-best overall, and he is often considered one of the top three or four quarterbacks.

That's wrong and wrong. <font color=black>

On most player ranking lists, he ranks in the top 15-20 players. That makes sense......he ranked 19th in completion of touchdown passes. The Eagles won 12 out of their 16 games. That's a good season......good enough to get them to the playoffs. They could not have done it without a better than average QB.

The author goes on to say that one player ranking list had him ranked third best.......ONE! That's an example of overrating?

He goes on to say that he is often considered one of the top 3 or 4 QB. Who says that? I've never heard someone say he's the 3rd or 4th best.

He also says that part of the problem is some of his teammates are lacking. And then he points out that after three games, McNabb is off to a bad start and seems to be off his game. That happens to the best of athletes. By the time I finished his article, it seemed like the author was looking for an excuse to nail McNabb.

But, more importantly, the fact that you were able to pull three links that trash McNabb suggests that Rush's concern over the media being afraid to criticize a black QB is overdone.

Finally, one last point........there is a guy who plays for the Mariners. He's black too. Last month, I was at one of the games with a friend and I was really cursing the guy. For the past two months, every time the Mariners were in the clutch and he was needed to come through, he would blow it. It was aggravating to me....particularly in the past month where every game counted to make the playoffs.

My friend, however, was defending him. I then accused my friend of being too much a Mariner loyalist particlarly with this one player. I felt my friend was giving him too much credit. Finally, I hammered my friend so much [as I am wont to do from time to time <g>], he threw up his hands and said check out the guy's stats. I did.....and you know what, his stats were much better than I thought.

My call was anecdotal and subjective and it was wrong......at least when you compare it to his stats. I am a sports fan.......I can be forgiven my error. Rush is a sports announcer.....he has to be more careful. Unfortunately, in football, there are many less stats to look at. That should have warned Rush to tread lightly.....but he didn't.

Again, I contend that Rush in his eagerness to take center stage in the sports world got himself kicked in the butt. It couldn't have happened to a nicer guy! <g>
