"Democrats Now Love the C.I.A."

Last July 14, Robert Novak wrote a column about Valerie Plame, the wife of former U.S. ambassador Joe Wilson. Novak stated she was a CIA operative and that the information came from ''two senior administrative officials.'' Here’s a link to that column. townhall.com

Novak’s column was about the search for weapons of mass destruction and how Joe Wilson was being sent to Niger to investigate the report that Saddam was trying to buy uranium from Niger in order to fabricate a nuclear bomb. Joe Wilson didn’t find any information and came back to the U.S. in time to donate $1,000 to John Kerry’s presidential campaign. For a look at what he didn’t find, here’s a link to his op-ed piece: commondreams.org

This is the most telling paragraph in that piece: ''I spent the next eight days drinking sweet mint tea and meeting with dozens of people: current government officials, former government officials, people associated with the country's uranium business. It did not take long to conclude that it was highly doubtful that any such transaction had ever taken place.'' Which is another way of saying he conducted the investigation in this manner: ''Hey anyone seen any yellowcake? No? Okay, I’ll go home then.'' He’ll never make a detective.

The Democrats are up in arms over this because of the supposed crime involved. Joe Wilson accused Karl Rove, Bush’s chief strategist, of leaking the information. However, Joe backed off of that charge the next day, but the Democrats are still upset. They are upset to the point of wanting to appoint an Independent Counsel, even though the Independent Counsel law has expired. Robert Novak didn’t name his source but helped the investigation out by stating in his column this week that the leak didn’t come from the Bush administration. The Democrat reaction to that column is: ''Thanks for nothing, Bob, but we’ll accuse the people we wish to be guilty.''

So why is this even important? Well, this isn’t the first time leaks have happened. A guy named Craig Livingston had between five hundred and a thousand F.B.I. files on Republicans. You may remember him; he was bar bouncer turned White House security guy in the Clinton administration. Charles Colson did time for one F.B.I. file and this guy didn’t do any time at all. Heck, no one even admitted to hiring the guy. But that leak was okay; after all he’s a Democrat.

Then, there’s the personal letters of Kathleen Willey that the White House handed out to reporters in violation of the Privacy Act, according to Judge Royce Lamberth. Not a problem though, since again it was a Democrat doing it.

How about the leaking of Linda Tripp’s personnel file at the Pentagon? Just a tad bit illegal there too. Again it’s okay, because it was a Democrat leaking the documents. Do you sense a pattern yet?

The Washington reporters live on leaks from ''senior administrative officials'' or ''unnamed officials'' or ''an unnamed spokesperson'' since that is just how some things get reported in Washington. If it weren't for leaks, some reporters would have nothing to do but report on the latest sale ads or the where to buy the best donuts in town. Now, because they think they can get political mileage out of it, this leak becomes an issue.

It isn’t yet clear what Mrs. Wilson's job at the CIA was, but according to Novak she was an analyst having nothing to do with clandestine operations, and as such, he didn’t harm anyone or put anyone’s life in danger. From what I understand, the law in question requires that the person being identified must be a covert agent and that the U.S has been taking steps to make sure the agent’s identity was a secret. I have yet to see anything that officially states that the law was even violated, but it doesn’t matter, because it was a Republican that leaked the information. The Democrat standard of justice is this: Bush is guilty until all the political mileage that can possibly be milked by the Democrats has been accomplished. After years of budget cutting and giving the agency short shrift, now they love that C.I.A. That is how Democrats cover their agenda, by standards of hypocrisy.
