F5 Networks upgraded to Mkt Outperform at JMP (FFIV) 21.04 +1.17: JMP Securities upgrades to Outperform from Mkt Perform based on their belief that there is a significant opportunity for the co to grow revs with little increase in operating expenses, creating sizeable financial leverage; also, with the acquisition of uROAM, firm is more confident in this thesis since uROAM's SSL VPN products move FFIV into a high growth area of security. Target is $26.

<yawn>, did you just pull this post from your latest Gartner quarterly?

As you know, I have no qualms with technology replacing redundant workforces, or any technology related positive shift. The most significant of these occurring currently imho is the airline business traveler market being replaced by web meetings.

Labor dumping, offshoring etc. is another matter. This destroys companies that execute poorly like Oracle, and makes our technologies like wintel victim to foreign markets that don't always play fair. We saw this in the 80s with the japanese dumping of consumer electronics.

It looks like Steven Roach has an understanding of the incorrect productivity metrics.

<<Stephen Roach, chief economist at Morgan Stanley, sees a link between higher productivity, weak wage growth and the shift of factory and white-collar services jobs offshore.

The shift of labor-intensive work offshore "has the effect of biasing domestic productivity growth to the upside," Roach wrote.

And while outsourcing overseas has boosted efficiency, it's given rise "to a significant income leakage that already has had a material impact on household purchasing power.">>
