Of course, not every agreed on the degree of danger. On the other hand, they were not the one's responsible for containment, nor would they be the one's who supplied the bulk of troops or money if it were determined that an attack were necessary. Being the country the world relies on for heavy lifting in these areas does give us a privileged position, and it is time to recognize it. If the French and others don't like it, they can take more responsibility for collective security. As it is, NATO had to beg us to deal with Bosnia and Kosovo.

The nature of the connection is a "back burner" issue. I am only concerned with pointing out the falsity of confident assertions that there was none.....
