Ilya, I think there is a conspiracy with any financial instrument to manipulate its price, and there are usually bullish conspirators and bearish one. I don't think gold in important enough for that consipiracy to be major league. And silver isn't important enough for Rush Limbaugh to call it bad names. When you think about how much gold and silver trades vs. say, Nasdaq, the metals look pretty puny.

So, ex any real reason to take them down, my guess is TA panic attack. And the good news is that the TA types have been getting whipsawed in every market out there.
