there are certainly a large group of israelis who think that occupation and continuing subjugation are wrong but sharon with his known past has been elected in a democratic society and for every israeli who die in this conflict, three palestanians have died. israel has always a justification when they drop a "precision" bomb from an f-16 on to a residential apartment building. alas the other side has no f-16s or blackhawks so they can't attack the soldiers in tanks & apcs. us has killed more iraqi civilians in this last war trying to liberate them from a dictator than the israelis who died in the last three years and a lot more palestinians than isrealis have died. death of every single person is a tragedy but you can't blame a wounded animal pushed to a corner for coming at you with everything it has. currently the group in israel which thinks that those lands are their god given right and they need to get rid of the pests which currently occupy it seem to have the upper hand. unless that changes i am afraid this conflict will continue.
