FORECASTERS EXPECT GEOMAGNETIC STORM A strong geomagnetic storm with the potential to affect electrical grids and satellite communications was expected to hit Earth today. One of the largest sunspot clusters in years developed over the past three days and early Wednesday produced a coronal mass ejection, similar to a solar flare, forecasters at the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration said. The disturbance was expected to result in a geomagnetic storm with an aurora visible as far south as Illinois and New York. (AP)
