I heard that as well. A major side effect of those painkillers is deafness. People just don't realize what they get themselves into.... As for his denials (or lack thereof), he has not said anything until he finds out the legal implications. I heard his weaseling and it sounds like he won't be forthcoming about the subject unless charged.

he is deaf.
He had surgery and cochlear implants and now wears a little computer on his waist.
