You learn something new every day. I had no idea that Missouri lost all electrical power during the Great Depression - until you told me.

I think your grim story is clearly illustrates the wretched hand-to-mouth existence which resulted from investing in real estate prior to the Great Depression. Hardly anyone's definition of a great investment except yours'.

I'm sure my Grandparents were grateful they lived in Los Angeles during the Great Depression and thus weren't reduced to cooking all of their meals for a decade over a charcoal grill in their driveway like a band of Hillbillies.

As they purchased their home after the decline in the real estate prices, they could afford to have all of their meals cooked on a gas stove in the kitchen.

I did find your website of the photos your GrandPa took during his trip to Los Angeles during the 1930's. Downright folksy.
