a couple more views on hiding one's IP address....

"To put it simply, you can run but you can't hide. To find your computer the packets have to have an address. It matters not how much you disguise it along the way, to be able to communicate the path must be complete. And from that, if you are on the net, and sharing, you can be found!

Simplest way to avoid trouble with the RIAA, FBI, etc., is to not share files illegally."

"I wouldn't recommend it (using proxies), because..

1. You can never trust a proxy owner.
2. You never know what kind of logs they keep.
3. You are trusting your most of your information transfer that you want to keep secure to an unknown party.
4. You don't know how long the owner of the proxy keeps it, or if they securely shred it. Not just delete. But shred. Do they do a DoD or NSA approved multi-pass delete approved for non-removable devices? Or do they just throw the papers in the bin and hope nobody finds em."
