reminds me of the time i went to see Philly and Boston in final playoff game in Philly... being a Boston kid i was going to cheer for Boston , even though i was with ten guys from the office, one guy said to me don't.... same thing happen when i hit nyc. everybody going down to a yankee , red sox game and they wouldn't support me joining them .. said i would get killed. so it goes if you walk into a crowd and you are the minority and the crowd is highly emotional, things can happen... I kept quiet at philly game , my boss didn't who was down from nyc.. and seven of us had to rescue him as he cheered for the Celtics.. he was quiet after that too.

We see the same thing happen in peace marches. Extremes on both sides and some of these people are joiners just for the excitement and maybe do not even vote.
