I have been reading Isaiah 17 and some other chapters. It's interesting but I don't know what to make of it yet. A couple passages suggest that Damascus will be uninhabitable after it's destruction. 9 And the land will be a desolation. and 11 In a day of sickness and incurable pain. (sounds like it could possibly be chemical/biological or nuclear)

Damascus has been destroyed twice and a new city rebuilt on "ancient ruins" from what I can find.

In the next chapter, 18, some have said that chapter is about the United States. It certainly has many similarities.

Interesting too that the Euphrates River runs through Syria, although nowhere near Damascus. The book of Revelation says there are four angels bound at the river Euphrates that will be released at the 6th trumpet and will kill 1/3 of mankind Rev 9:13-21. The 6th trumpet is the "army of the east", the 200 million man army. An army only China could raise and march to the middle east. And only for oil. We are at war over oil right now. China needs oil too. According to Paul we are not taken up until the "last trumpet" which would be the seventh.

Also in Rev 16:12 the angel pours out his bowl of wrath on the river Euphrates and the water was dried up to prepare the way for the kings of the east. But this is a bowl of wrath and I do not believe the saints will be here when the bowls of wrath are poured out. Interesting that the 200 million man army is not said to be destroyed in Rev chapter 9. Possibly this army is in the middle east for a time before it is finally destroyed. We will see it arrive in Syria but we will be taken up before it is destroyed?
