Thanks gg cox

I wonder how many OA sufferers there are in the 300,000 that read the magazine.

"Quick Facts
How common is osteoarthritis?
It affects 3,000,000 (1 in 10) Canadians.
It affects men and women in equal numbers.
Most people develop osteoarthritis after the age of 45, but it can occur at any age."
arthritis.ca

2 scenarios:

(1) We know 10% of population suffers from OA.
So statistically, about 30,000 of CARP subscribers suffer OA @ near 100% certainty. Call this the low water mark. This is equivalent to about 1% of 3mm Canadian arthritis suffers.

(2) We know 10%-12% of our population is "senior" depending what age is used to define what a senior is. Define age 65+ is senior and life expectancy of 80. Then age 50 to 80 is 30 years with 65 as a mid point. Assuming a straight line distribution of ages for subscribers, then 1/2 are seniors or 150,000 subscribers. We know that a large majority of seniors suffer OA. I'll make a wild guess of 92%, so 138K subscribers. If the statement "most people age 45" is essentially useful, then I'll make another guess that 51% of subscribers between age 50-65 suffers OA.

Drum roll...ta da
On the high end 214,500 subscribers suffer OA. Equivalent to 7% of estimate 3mm Canadian OA suffers!

Anyways, I agree with you, a most timely article. Do you have a way to link the actual contents of page 10?

Good evening.

Yukkety yak yak.
Sorry, must be a full moon tonight.

gg: thanks for the info on 50 Plus

with 300,000 subscribers, perhaps 750,000 readers will likely look at the publication (typically, 2.5 readers per subscription depending on the publication)....and she told two friends etc etc

when the provincial formularies kick in and seniors can get pennsaid for "free", then the effects of the above article will really kick in...i believe that once the provincial formularies kick in, the "oldersters" who will get pennsaid covered will be sharing it with friends and loved one who are young uns who don't qualify....the safety profile of pennsaid certainly gives one more confidence to share than any script i can think of....normally, sharing a script is a complete no no but i know that i have certainly passed the ol bottle around a few times

thanx also to joe for the article that he posted..word is getting around

in a recent post, jkay criticized mgmt for its blunders like we all have, but he adroitly poised the question...has dmx mostly got it right or mostly got it wrong...i think the answer becomes more clear each day

can't you just see a spontaneous outbreak of group hug at the agm...i wonder if becky can arrange for some electric campfires to be delivered to the marriott to enhance the mood

wily
