To get rid of Asbestoes shingles now you have to have a specially trained and equipped team remove them. Very expensive.

I had an old Asbestoes shingled house on the farm. The rent didn't cover the taxes and road upkeep. I gave it to the local fire department. They and two other RFDs spent a morning lighting it on fire and putting it out. Had a dozer fill in the hole and that was the end of it.
