Central bank purchases account for about 35% of total foreign bond
purchases. The other 65% of foreigners care when their bonds are losing money, and will dump should interest rates rise.

I gotta chime in with this one ..

OK .. I'm a small country ..
I export products to the US.
So then, you think that I need to spend the excess on US debt?? I have no idea why I couldn't just exchange the incomming dollars for gold bricks or whatever else.

"I think I'll let the other countries support the US by buying their debt."

Orrrrr .. perhaps there is an international plot to support the US .. and everybody agrees to support the US .. so everybody buys US debt to support the poor old US.

nope .. sorry, I don't buy it.
